Yellow Jackets – Yj20 (6v6)

$94.99$454.99

The YJ20 converts most audio amplifiers with 6V6s and similar-based tubes to EL84s without modification or rebiasing

Yellow Jackets® tube converters allow EL84 power tubes to be used in place of the most common guitar amp power tubes, including 6L6, EL34, 6V6, 7027, 6550, and 7591. Most Yellow Jackets® provide a substantial output power reduction and a “self-bias” Class A configuration for the EL84 so that no bias adjustment is required. Yellow Jackets® are like getting a whole new amp.

ADDITIONAL INFO

Why would I want to convert to EL84s using Yellow Jackets®?

Every power tube type offers a different characteristic sound and feel. EL84s have a very tight and focused sound which has become world-renowned through their use in the British VOXTM AC30 guitar amplifiers. Additionally, most Yellow Jackets® converters will produce a substantial maximum power reduction (50% to 90%) making it easier to find that sweet, warm mix of preamp and power amp distortion at a lower volume.

Yellow Jackets® also convert the power tube bias to “self-bias” Class A so that no bias adjustment is necessary. You can switch back and forth between your EL84s and your amplifiers original power tubes without re-biasing.

Pentode vs. Triode

The Yellow Jackets® pentode versions provide more bite and attitude, while the triode versions provide greater power reduction and more linearity. If you are looking for power reduction and response with more bite and attitude, choose the pentode version. If you’re looking for maximum power reduction and want to tame the response of your amp, choose the triode version.

Sizing and more

YJS requires at least 5″ of clearance and YJShort requires at least 4.5″ of clearance to fit the seated height of the adapter and EL84 tube. The YJC may be used instead of the YJS in any application and it is not necessary to connect its ground wire when doing so.

Yellow Jackets® is not recommended for use in amplifiers that have a rated power output greater than 100 watts or plate voltages greater than 519 VDC.
